If you've ever wondered where those confronting television ads about battery chickens, sow crates and other forms of industrial-scale farming come from, Brian Sherman is a good place to start. The former Ten Network director and Equitilink founder has been devoting his time and money to animal rights causes through his Voiceless think tank.Voiceless, which has also attracted financial support from that other funds management do-gooder Peter Hall of Hunter Hall, is about to cross the $1 million mark in grants doled out to animal welfare projects from a standing start in 2005, including those that make the TV ads.One project was getting universities to teach animal law. The way Sherman tells it, former High Court Justice Michael Kirby launched Australia's first textbook on the issue in May - and became a vegetarian the next day.
